Slovakia, Tatra National Park, Vychodna Vysoka

Arrived in a small ski resort yesterday mid mountain in the High Tatra Range in the Carpathian Mountains called Stary Smokovec. It's one of three main ski/walking resort towns in the area. Staying in a very nice apartment which I can only describe as being excellent value for the money. Still struggling with my groin so a bit  frustrated at my inability to take on a serious walk. In saying that this trip was never about taking on mountains, rather to get a flavour of Eastern European countries and their cultures. Whatever that means!! Anyway I took a cable car up to 1300 metres and then made my way very steadily towards the summit of a mountain called Vychodna Vysoka. Went to about 2000 metres, maybe 400 metres shy of the top, and then made my way down. I'll see how the Achilles  and groin respond overnight before deciding what I do with the further 2 days I intend to spend here. I really hope I can get to the top of one of the mountains here before I leave. I'm  told you can see right into Poland from some of the peaks. Anyway, what about this!! There's a hut somewhere close to the top of the mountain I was climbing today which serves as a cafe for walkers. Look out in one of the pictures for the back of a chap carrying beer barrels down the mountain. Yes you have read it correctly. I passed a few of them on my way, some carrying two, others 3!! I never saw anyone carrying full ones up but I wouldn't be at all surprised!  I would have asked him how much it pays but my Slovakian doesn't extend that far!! I've got to say I was gob smacked!! The weather here has been fabulous the last few days and looks set to continue it seems.
Some pics as usual.
Be good,
Glen
