The Sea Organ, Sun Salutation and star attraction! I have never seen a dog swim like it nor dive into the water from the harbour! It must have been something like a 3 metre drop. He was leaping off and catching ball in mid air and as you can see, towing his owner back to shore!! And he was only a scrag end of a thing!!

Croatia, Dalmatia, Zadar
Was going to do a bit in Istria but started out for it yesterday and you just wouldn't believe the traffic. I cracked on for a bit and then turned turtle for the motorway and dropped down into Dalmatia. Lonely Planet does say it gets flooded with tourists. Also that there's nothing other than a small fishing village called Rovinj that's particularly remarkable. So, I'm in a city called Zadar at the moment. I arrived yesterday evening and I'm in the tent again and loving it. It turned into a long day yesterday as I didn't leave Koper until mid day. Then by the time I faffed around and took the decision to come here it left me with the best part of a 250 mile drive! Dalmatia is the central bit of Croatia's Adriatic Coast line and Zadar overlooks a number if it's Adriatic islands. Zadar's historic old town is remarkable and it boasts what it calls the Sea Organ and Sun Salutation - look them up on Google!! The sea front is also very attractive although not a beach to be had! I've included another sea front attraction in the pictures. Look out for it!! Considering taking on the drive to Plitvice Lakes National Park tomorrow but it's a 6 hour round trip and not particularly on my way to Split which will be my next base. Will decide later.

Slovenia, Adriatic Coast, Piran
Definitely a little more like it. It's old town is described as one of the best preserved anywhere on the Adriatic and although I'm not really in a position to comment one way or the other, it was a cut Above. And maybe it's the snob in me but it was just altogether more sophisticated!!
Much love,

Slovenia, Adriatic Coast, Koper
Slovenia has less than 40 kilometers of coastline and Koper is Slovenia's largest coastal town. It is home to a thriving port as well as a growing seaside resort. The medieval character of the old town was undoubtedly the highlight for me, otherwise not really my cup of tea!! Nonetheless some pictures attached. It was early evening when I visited so not too sure how the low level of light will impact?

Slovenia, Julian Alps, Lake Bled
Quite a busy day yesterday, having arrived in Bled from Ljubljana the evening before. I spent the majority of the day in The Triglav Narional Park in the Julian Alps, part of the wider European Alpine Range. In addition to bragging the Alps as a backdrop, Bled is also famed for its lake, which I have to say is rather impressive, particularly looking across the lake and up to Bled Castle, perched high above on a steep cliff. The church on the tiny island in the middle is also very attractive. Moved from Bled to Lake Bohinj - equally impressive!! Then headed to Kranjska Gora to drive the Vrsic Pass. The pictures will speak for themselves in this respect. The drive out of the national park through the Soca Valley capped a fabulous day, which ended on a campsite in a place called Ankaran, close to Koper on Slovenia's Adriatic Coast. Yes, the tent is out for the first time this trip and I hope it's the first of many!! Pictures of Lake Bled to start.

Slovenia, last of Ljubljana
The foreground in the shot looking up at the castle is in preparation for a celebration of Slovenian independence on Thursday. And the president is due to give a speech to mark the ocassion from that very stage!!
Slovenia, Ljubljana
Well the weather certainly broke today! With a vengeance!! The notion was to leave Zagreb and drive to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, for a mooch around for a few hours, before moving further into Slovenia to a town called Bled for the night. I stuck to the itinerary but by goodness did it rain. The castle area really could have been very pleasant I think in different circumstances but as with Zagreb not over photogenic. I managed to stay out for 3 hours but the temperature dropped like a stone today and it was just miserable!! Due to pick up again tomorrow so I understand, which is good because I intend to visit the lake in Bled and also Lake Bohinj, before driving on to Kranjska Gora in preparation to drive the Vrsic Pass on Thursday. Supposed to be quite spectacular!
Some very wet pictures from Ljubljana attached!!

Croatia, Zagreb
I have to say it was harder getting out of Serbia than it was getting into back in to Croatia!! Nice to be back on something resembling a decent driving surface again as well!! I arrived in Zagreb early evening following a lengthy drive and promptly went out to celebrate father's day, as the girls had sponsored a couple of drinks and a meal for me to mark the occasion. Up early this morning and caught a tram into town. Unfortunately I have to say that whilst pleasant enough, Zagreb is probably the least photogenic capital I have visited thus far!
Nonetheless a few shots taken in the city attached. First the main square followed by the cathedral.
Moving on to Slovenia tomorrow for a few days, starting with a look at Ljubljana.
Take care,

Serbia, Sremski Karlovci
Had a quick drive to Sremski Karlovci before hitting the peage to Zagreb. It's deep in Serbian vineyard and monastery country. Unfortunately I only had time for a very quick nose at the town itself and with the best part of a 300 mile drive in front of me a glass of wine was out of the question!!
Couple of pics attached.
