Czech Republic, Prague - Another Couple from the Day

Czech Republic, Prague - Last Day in Prague

Spent the day in Prague Castle itself. I hear you say 'he's already been there'. In fact I spent the day before yesterday in the castle district, which included the castle grounds, but not the actual castle buildings with public  access . Now I'm not actually a 'castlely' person and I have to say that the overall experience did little to change my mind! But having come, I didn't think I could leave Prague without doing it! I guess it was enjoyable enough but photography was prohibited without a photography pass!! And flash photography was prohibited even with a pass!! So I didn't bother and got my camera out a couple of times anyway!! But only in St Vitus ' Cathedral which was the highlight of the day, together with the wall and ceiling paintings in Rosenberg Palace  chapel.
Moving on to Cesky Krumlov tomorrow. Reputedly, acvording to Lonely Planet anyway, the most beautiful town in the whole of Europe!! I look  forward to it!!

Czech Republic, Prague - Didn't Forget

I said in my post yesterday that I would attach pictures of a couple  of protest symbols. Sad to say that try as I might both yesterday and today, and as recently as just now, they just wouldn't send. Even tried to send them as singles. Bit strange that everything else has been posting fine. Probably just a coincidence!!!!!

Czech Republic, Prague - Prague's Wenceslas Square and Old Town

I've never really classed myself as a city type but I think Prague might be changing my mind. Another day just as special as yesterday. Spent the morning exploring Wenceslas Square and it's surrounds and the afternoon in old town and it's square. Wenceslas Square was historically the main area of the city where political regimes down the years have publicized themselves. Conversely it has also been the area of focus for political protest against them. The old town, particularly it's square, has been the city's principal public square for a 1000 years and its stunning aray of architecture certainly bears this out. And to top it all I found the best coffee and cake I've had for some considerable time!! So impressed was I that I actually took a picture!!
Having spent yesterday in the castle district and grounds, I will spend tomorrow in Prague Castle itself. After that it will probably be time to move on!
Couple of picture of Wenceslas Square attached looking towards the National Museum. No prises for guessing who the guy on the horse is!

Czech Republic, Prague - A Day in Prague's Castle District

21 degrees, mostly sunny and absolutely stunning. It was like being transported back in time. Cross the Vltava river via Charles bridge and you're in another world! Prague Castle itself is majestic with fabulous views back across the city. And the architecture of the castle district in general is fabulous. In contrast, the John Lennon Wall was a protest against the old regime. Because young people were banned from listening to his music they wrote protest lines of his songs on the wall. And a little further on there's another protest symbol which speaks for itself - pictures of both attached. Went in by car as far as the metro. All day parking one pound fifty!! Less than a pound to get to the heart of the city - probably 20 minutes - on a very clean and efficient underground system!! I walked everywhere but you can get a day ticket to use any and all of the cities transport for a little over two pounds!! Excellent coffee and excellent cake two pounds fifty!!  No beer unfortunately as I was driving!! I had a great day and I hope some of my photos do it justice. Going in again tomorrow to explore the old and new town areas on the east side of the river.
