The sole purpose of travelling up to Gdansk was to see the place where the fall of communism in Eastern Europe started. Where the first domino was tipped!! And I'm pleased to say I've seen the shipyard/s, and I've walked across the very same bridge that the leaders of the shipyard workers crossed, to sit down in what to all intents and purposes is a very architecturally insignificant building, to negotiate with government officials for the right to form self governing independent trade unions. And the rest is history!! You may have noticed that I've also been collecting 'old towns' on my way round and I have to say Gdansk's was well worth the visit!!
